A kind of illustration / A kind of map

Splicing incongruous imagery together such as birds in flight, floating oil in water, a taxi light's beam, a matchstick model maker and flickering lights in a block of flats, with edited excerpts from interviews conducted, 'A kind of ... (map/illustration)' is a video series following two non-linear narratives. The first (illustration) surrounds various gaps between buildings in Berlin and the local residents who believe the gaps to be cursed. The second narrative (map) centres around an underground tunnel under Liverpool and the two opposing rival support groups who cannot agree on how to excavate the tunnels and why they exist. As the narratives cross over and interweave, uncanny relationships are suggested and simultaneously undermined; dissolving to the point where everything can be linked and yet nothing is stable.
